The historic Cold Spring Presbyterian Church is located in southern NewJersey. It is approximately 5 miles from the City of Cape May; a year-round seashore resort.
The church is a National Historic Landmark. It is registered by the Presbyterian Historical Society in Philadelphia as an American Presbyterian Site and also included in the New Jersey Register of Historic Places. This congregation has been influenced, in part, by its history and tradition. Legend tells us that 5 presidents were visitors. They were: Harrison, Lincoln, Pierce, Taft and Woodrow Wilson.
In 2014 Cold Spring Presbyterian Church will celebrate its 300th Anniversary. The congregation dates back to 1714 and the church has held continuous services from then up to the present. The current structure is of federal design and was erected in 1823. It is constructed of red brick and is known, affectionately, as "Old Brick". The U-shaped balcony houses 2 slave quarters, an organ, choir loft, and can seat about 100 attendees. The sanctuary, downstairs, will seat approximately 200 congregants. The pews have individual doors.
There are 80 members; most are retirees. There is an average attendance of 80 people on most Sundays; slightly more on holidays. The members are very similar in values and lifestyles to those who live in the immediate area. In addition to the church building, there is an administrative/fellowship hall (Price Hall), built in 1979, and the manse (built in 1956). One of the oldest cemeteries in the State of New Jersey occupies fifty acres of land. . Some groups using Price Hall are Christ Child Society, Easter Seal Society, Alcoholics Anonymous, AARP, Women's Club of Cape May, Gardening by the Sea, and Bayshore Woods Condominium Association. Parking is much more than ample for the different events that are held there. Price Hall houses a social hall, with a kitchen, Sunday school classrooms, pastor's office, administrative office and a library. Cold Spring Cemetery is owned and operated by the church. Surrounding the church is the oldest section with headstones dating back to the 1700's. In order to keep the cemetery competitive a mausoleum consisting of 192 crypts and 48 niches was erected in 2006. All ground surrounding the church, manse, Price Hall, and cemetery is well maintained throughout the year by the cemetery staff. Considerable development is occurring within Cape May County where the church is located. Grade and secondary schools (including Vo-tech) and a community college are nearby. Stockton College is approximately one hour's drive.
Cold Spring Presbyterian Church is a well-respected church within the community. It gives a strong expression to its denominational identity and heritage. We are a congregation with strong moral values.
